15 Months

Owen turned 15 months old on Sunday. He weighs in at 26lbs 10oz and is 31” tall. That puts him in the 90% for weight and 40% for height. No problems here :). He seems to be healthy and I love the chubs. This past weekend he got his second haircut, which he wasn’t very fond of (mostly because the kid beside him kept crying), and he rode his first train at the zoo. He wasn’t too sure about the train ride although he did say “whoa” when the train whistled. I am sure there will be more train rides in our future.

Summer finally showed up this weekend so we were able to use the stroller fan and also go to a small splash pad. Owen seems to enjoy the fan and if he is strapped in the stroller he can’t reach it. This will come in handy when we are at the beach. Speaking of the beach, it’s almost time and I can’t wait to see how Owen reacts this year. Last year he was too young to have an opinion, so this year will be a whole new ball game.

Let’s throw a little fashion in shall we? Thank goodness for Nordstroms return policy. I have officially taken back 3 pairs of Birkenstocks. I don’t think they are for me. I’ve tried a hard sole, a soft sole, 2 straps, and I’ve tried adjusting the straps. They still are not comfortable. Oh well, I guess I will just have to start looking at fall shoes :).

“Kiss Kiss”

It seems that over the last few weeks Owen has been learning a lot. He is so into books right now, and if the book is to his liking he will sit crossed legged on your lap and listen to you read the whole thing. It make me happy when he grabs a book and hands it to me, even if I’ve read it 5 times in a row. He really loves “Pete the Cat and his Four Groovy Buttons”. It was a gift from our friend Nicole. Thanks, Nicole! He even does a little dance when the words rhyme. My favorite moment this week was when I was reading him the book “Farm Friends” (touch and feel book). It is just a short board book that has a few things that he can feel on the pages. While I was reading and we got to the puppy page it reads, “two puppies, kiss kiss”, and he went down and kissed the page. It was so cute I almost cried. I made sure to read it again for Tony and he loved it too. These moments are so special and I really look forward to him learning more and more as he gets older :).

Here are the links to the books if you are interested:

“Belbo”

“Belbo” is Owen’s word for elbow. One of his favorite books is Toes, Ears, and Nose. It is a flip-up book that has a different body part on each page – elbow being one of them. He always holds his forearm rather than his elbow but he is pretty close. Also, yesterday when Tony was giving Owen a bath, Owen didn’t scream the entire time :). He only screamed when his hair was being rinsed. So there is hope after all.

Last week was a short holiday week, which made the work week feel a lot quicker. This 5 day work week stuff is for the birds. Speaking of the birds, I bet they are probably enjoying all of the rain we have been getting. This must be the rainiest summer on record. At least it was nice for the holiday weekend.

On July 4th we enjoyed the local Columbus Doo Dah Parade, and we had a grill out at our house. All of the guests were gone before any fireworks started because most of them had kids to put to bed. The kids played in the water table and had fun popping bubbles. I wish that I had taken some pictures, but with Tony grilling and me running around with Owen there wasn’t the time. I think everyone left with a full belly.

Owen has started getting into more things besides the cabinets. He now tries to get into the kitchen garbage, and put is toys in there – yuck! So last Friday night we ordered a lock for it. You don’t realize how much you use something until you have to unlock it every time.

Mixing It up

This past week was a little weird because I had to serve jury duty. I don’t know how many of my readers have had to serve on jury duty, but to me it felt like I was waiting for a plane that never arrived. I was placed in a room with a bunch of other people and I just had to sit and wait. There was free coffee and tea, and they had two TV’s but that is about it. I couldn’t leave because there was the possibility that I would get called to be on a jury. At one pointed I did get selected, but after they questioned me they decided that I wasn’t a good fit. It wasn’t all bad. I was able to get some reading done, and go out to lunch. I even received a certificate thanking me for my service – although I didn’t really have a say in the matter. At least it was a change from the old mundane schedule.

Owen has learned a few new things this week. He now knows where his nose, head, and elbows are when we ask him, and the other day he said “Thank you”. Not sure if he really understands what it means yet, but it is a start. We knew he loved music but now he will clap with the songs and shake his bum. It is really cute. I kind of wish they would record him at daycare when they have music day on Friday’s. I will have to try and get a video of him dancing at home soon.

A quick update on baths. He still hates them, even in the sink. We can now get him to sit down in the tub, but he still screams the whole time. Every time we try and give him a toy he will kind of play with it for a second but he won’t stop screaming. Boo :/.

Hope everyone enjoys their holiday weekend!
